Tan Heng On came to the U.S. from Burma, Thailand with his father 50 years ago. He was employed in the restaurant industry and volunteered with his church through the years.
In addition to taking Tai Chi at On Lok 30th Street, Tan began participating in the AWE class in 2023 and always looks forward to the Thursday and Friday art sessions there. While he had some prior experience with drawing and making fans, he is enjoying taking on the challenge of learning to paint with acrylics “because it is new to me.”
With nature as his inspiration, Tan creates vibrant landscapes often featuring various animals. By Instructor Miranda’s account, “he has become quite skilled at mixing colors capturing subtle contrasts in a range of hues with sensitive and varied brushwork.” Miranda adds that “his painting conveys a cohesive energy and presence.”
Tan has made many friends in the On Lok community and enjoys being part of the supportive AWE class group where participants admire and comment on each others’ work.
