Mei Jing Zhu is originally from Shanghai, China, and moved to the United States in 1995 on Thanksgiving. She began participating in the Art With Elders class at Aquatic Park in March 2024.
Mei Jing enjoys creating beautiful pictures, often beginning with waterfalls, which she sees as symbols of hope for an afterlife. The waterfall is also a meaningful metaphor for change and transformation for her.
Painting is a language for Mei Jing to express her feelings — it sparks her imagination, extending beyond the moments she spends painting. She is inspired by seeing how others paint and feels encouraged to improve through the creative energy of the group. She says that everyone in the class is her friend.
