Sam, originally from Mexico City, immigrated to the United States in 1968 to pursue his medical training and went on to build a long career as an OB/GYN. Throughout his life, he has maintained wide-ranging interests—from folk and classical music to sports, playing soccer in his youth and now enjoying ping pong and bocce.
A lifelong admirer of art, he sought out museums during his travels, especially drawn to modern work and the evolving possibilities of artistic expression. Since retiring, Sam has embraced creating art as a meaningful and relaxing outlet, allowing his emotions to flow freely.
After moving to his current community a year and a half ago, he quickly joined art classes, where he has grown more confident experimenting with new forms and, in particular, color—moving beyond his earlier focus on pen, ink, and charcoal. He now approaches his work with curiosity and openness, unafraid of failure and eager to learn from others. Sam values the friendships and shared discovery that come through art classes, and finds deep joy in spending time with his two sons and four young grandchildren who live nearby.
