Bonnie Wright is a third-generation San Franciscan. She worked for over 40 years in the hospitality business and retired during COVID. She now spends time doing jigsaw puzzles for four to six hours a day. She loves to travel, but says her sense of adventure has waned, so now it flows through her artwork.
She has been participating in the Art With Elders class at the Stonestown YMCA for approximately two years. She enjoys the freedom to play with colors and finds the process relaxing. She says that playing with art helps open her eyes and allows her to look at things differently.
Bonnie says, “I can actually paint.” She has always been creative, though not a “drawing person”, and finds it surprising that she can paint something “that doesn’t look bad”.
Through the class, she has made friends and looks forward to the friendly chats and stories shared while painting, which make the time go quickly.
She believes it is important to “learn to laugh at most things.”
