Social engagements were an essential part of Gilded Age and Victorian Era Society, even in small towns like Lake Maitland. Calling Cards were equally important as they were the way that social calls would have been made among dear friends and strangers alike. Usually unscripted with the owner's name, or a brief message, Calling Cards would have been presented to announce the cardholders arrival.
