Bass USA Three Pin Binding

Description

This type of binding has a long history. It was first invented by the Norwegian firm Rottefella in 1927 when it introduced its first 75 mm-wide 3-pin binding. Known as the Nordic Norm, this type of binding dominated cross-country skiing for nearly 100 years. Bass USA sold this model into the very early 1990s. This specimen is likely from the 1970s or 80s. It is clearly a copy of the then very popular Villom 3-pin, designed by Bert Otto Hauglin, including the forward "cup" that allowed the binding to be attached and released by using the spike on the end of the ski pole.
