Kalvträsk ski replicaEntry/Object ID
PHS0001Description
This faithful replica shows the 5,200-year-old Kalvträsk ski exactly as it appeared when unearthed in 1924—the oldest complete ski ever discovered. In 2024, master craftsman Owe Söderström of Kalvträsk, Swedish Lapland, recreated it for the Askmo ski collection. After the original Kalvträsk ski was transferred to the Umeå Regional Museum, it was Mr Söderström who was commissioned to produce a replica for the Kalvträsk Museum, where it remains on display, preserving a link to the earliest winter journeys of the Sámis and their ancestors.Use
