Lappegut on skis - 1910Entry/Object ID
SCP0009Description
Lappegut is Norwegian for Lapp-kid or, but should properly be Sámi-kid on skis, Norway, c. 1910. Surrounded by the reindeer herd and his dog, this kid is learning early on the main elements of what his grown-up life will be. Note the up-close of the leather binding strap "locked-in" by the upturn on his "finnesko" or ski boot. See parallel to item SSB0001 "Sámi ski boot" in this catalog. The image shows the long-established place of skiing in Sámi winter life and culture.
