Name/Title

Sámi children on skis

Description

A vintage Swedish postcard showing Sámi children with skis in the snow, published by A.-B. Alga, Stockholm, probably in the late 1930s. The image suggests how early skiing became part of Sámi life: the children appear to be learning not only how to use skis, but also how to manage the simple leather-strap bindings themselves. It offers a charming glimpse of skills being passed from one generation to the next.
