Makers’ MediumsDescription
Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum
Wausau, WI
Pandemic challenges inspired Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum staff to exercise creative problem solving and flexibility. Devising hands-free opportunities for intriguing on-site visitor engagement in Art Park – the Museum’s interactive family gallery – required new approaches. Being nimble and creative proved to be a winning combination.
The diversity of "Birds in Art" artists’ mediums and studio tools inspired the Art Park team – curator of exhibitions Shannon Pueschner, curators of education Catie Anderson and Lisa Hoffman, and facilities manager Dave Jones – to focus more broadly on the process of art making. The result, titled Makers’ Mediums, features a visual array of art tools and materials to inspire visitors’ future creations.
The Museum’s workshop hummed with activity in late summer 2020 when Dave, Shannon, and Catie collaborated to replace Art Park’s hands-on, interactive elements with the hands-free Makers’ Mediums installations – the visual array of studio materials and I Spy prompts and clues for younger visitors.
