Description

Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Wausau, WI To amplify the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s commitment to community art engagement, Museum staff in October 2020 designed, created, and installed the Stop-by Studio, making Art Kits available to the public even when the Woodson Art Museum is closed. The birdhouse-inspired structure, clad in cedar shingles and copper, offers Art Kits and books for all, to keep or share with others. This excerpt from a Woodson Wanderings blog posted on November 11 by Elaina Johann, administrative manager, describes the project: “The Woodson Art Museum has a new addition to its campus perched along North 12th Street. You might think it’s a birdhouse; it’s not, yet it does have roosts and portals to peek through and discover surprises inside. Although not a library, it does contain books ready for you to read or ideas to inspire a new creation. It’s the Stop-by Studio, filled with free Art Kits and books for all to keep or share. As if preparing a guesthouse, Museum staff worked diligently to guarantee our Stop-by Studio ‘guests’ experience comfort and amenities that would rival any bed and breakfast. They created a patina on the copper roof, overlapped cedar shingles, and tiled each room differently with painted walls to match. This quaint abode is ready to keep Art Kits and books cozy while awaiting pickup during the winter months ahead.”
