Page 18-21 Avro Canada's plant to produce Orenda engines was being built in Malton and in order to speed up production a new factory is planned in Canada to produce turbine blades as well as expansion of another location to make magnesium castings. It was estimated that it would be a least a year before Avro could be producing about 50 Orenda engines per month. Avro Wage Increase - Wage increases ranging from five cents to eleven cents per hour have been granted to more than 3000 plant employees at Avro Canada as a result of wage negotiations between Aeronautical Lodge 717, I.A. of M and the management of the company. Also introduced was a cost-of-living bonus based on a one cent bonus for every 1.3 rise over the base index of February 1, 1951 A.V. Roe Canada Limited was also awarded a contract for $120,514 foraircraft parts by the Department of Defence Production.
