Page 16 Article describing the direction of the Canadian aircraft industry over the next 3 years around 1951. The main efforts will be concentrated at the Avro Canada and Canadair plants. Avro will double its' employment from 5000 when the Orenda jet engine and CF-100 programs get rolling. Canadair will increase production of the F-86 Sabre for use in Europe. Harvard Trainers will be built for the RCAF by Canadian Car & Foundry Co. Ltd. at the Fort William plant and Canadian Pratt & Whitney will manufacture radial engines for the Harvard. It is also possible that de Havilland Aircraft Co. of Canada Ltd. will build quantities of Beaver aircraft for the USAF. In a reent speech in Parliament Defence Minister Claxton outlined the 3 year program spending to be $5 billions.Claxton discussed details of requirements for Civil Defence as well as Canadian contributions to Global Defence under NATO.
