Description

Worked at Power Jets in 1942. Joined the NRC in 1943, transferred to Turbo Research in 1944 as Chief Designer and when Turbo Research was sold to Avro as the Gas Turbine Division in 1946 he worked on the TR-4 Chinook engine (first engine designed and built in Canada in 1948) as Assistant Chief Designer then Orenda series engines for Avro. Came up with the names Chinook, Orenda and Iroquois (though some sources state Val Cronstedt named the Iroquois). Resigned from Avro 31 Dec 50 (some records indicate Nov 10, 1950) and started his own consulting firm Winnett Boyd Ltd. Winn was working on the Wacanda as his next engine
