Description

Avro test pilot hired in 1951 for the Canuck, completed 1,000 hours in CF-100 during 200 flights including flights with JATO. He flew Hugh Mackechnie to take photos of Zura flying in loops - the photos were featured in Aircraft magazine (object 1600) and other publications. He was the pilot for the CF-100 for rocket tests in 1954. Listed as a Development Test Pilot with the Test Pilots Division in 1956. Flew the company DC-3 and in 1956 - went on to fly the Arrow which he flew supersonic -was flying the Arrow when a issue in Malton on the runway resulted in the Arrow having to land in Trenton. He was one of the people who congratulated Zura after his first Arrow flight and then attended Zura's retirement dinner later in 1958. Flew in the Arrow five times and was retained after Black Friday to be a test pilot on the Avrocar. Avro experimental test pilot living at 5 Remington Dr (Etob) in the 1959 Might's Greater Toronto Directory.. Recruited by Boeing Company after Avro as Service Engineer in 1960 and retired from Boeing in 1986. Passed away Apr 4, 2005 at 83 yrs
