Mr. Harvey R. Smith was a former Kaiser executive who joined A. V. Roe Canada in October 1952 as VP Manufacturing. Jim Floyd referenced him as a Production Chief who was resitant to changes and required a daily "parts count" at 7:30 a.m. Between 1954 and 1958 was Vice President, Manufacturing, of the Aircraft Div. and its successor, Avro Aircraft Ltd. As such, he was involved in most projects, including the CF-100, the Arrow and the Avrocar. By 1957 he was a member of the Management Committee and a Director of the company. Between 1958 and 1959 he was with A V. Roe Canada's Dominion Steel & Coal Corp (DOSCO)., as Vice President &, General Manager of the Steel Fabrication & Mfg. Div., Montreal. He was called back to A. V. Roe Canada's Toronto headquarters in 1959 following the cancellation of the Arrow to take up the post of Executive Vice President of the parent company, Hawker Siddeley Canada Ltd., to reorganize and consolidate the company's aviation activities. Appointed Executive VP, Aeronautical Division replacing Fred Smye in 1959. In 1960 he announced the boat division. Listed in 1960 as Orenda President and Chair and also President and Chair of Canadian Applied Research Ltd. He resigned as Exec-VP of Hawker Siddeley Canada Ltd. in 1962.
