2019.044.037Description
A small reddish-brown rubber cylinder containg a kit for tending to a snake bite. The cylinder includes a suction device, a razor (sharp) for cutting the wound further to allow poison to leak out, and a vial of antiseptic. The kit never appears to have been used.Context
These small snake-bite kits were an important safety precaution for boy scouts or campers and outdoors people in general. The kits were an emergency tool that allowed people who had been bitten by a snake to receive field care before being taken to a proper medical facility. This improved the likelihood of survival in snake-bite cases where the snakes could be venomous. The kits could be more or less advanced and could include antivenom tablets. There is a strong possibility that the scout leaders carried more advanced kits.Made/Created
