Post Office & Drug Store- Balboa Island, Calif. 1133Entry/Object ID
BIM2020.005.46Description
A black and white picture photograph of 201 Marine Avenue. It was taken when it was Allen's Pharmacy and the US post office was in the back half of the building. Jack & Jill and the Hal Will Smith office are visible next door. Two phone booths and a sitting area were located between the Pharmacy and Post Office entrances.
Two copies. The backs of the postcards are standardized with no publication or printing data. Both cards were used, though only one was "sent" as a post card (with a stamp- the other appears to be part of a set of postcards sent likely with a letter to illustrate the trip). They have an EKC stamp box.Subject

The messages on the back of these postcards illustrate two common uses for postcards at the time. In one instance, the image on the postcard is used to visually provide the receiver with a landmark to navigate by. The other is used as an illustrative feature, possibly in series, to provide a visual component in speaking about a trip.Collection

Dear Muddle-
We arrived safely and are having a swell time. When you come down Friday try to come early so we can go fishing that morning. Come straight down the coast highway from Long Beach until you see a sign saying "Balboa Island" not just Balboa and follow the arrow turning right until you come to the drugstore in this picture. Turn right again and go down six blocks to the house.
Love, Bud & Skater & Dottie Dale
