BIM2020.005.40Description
A black and white picture postcard of Balboa Island taken from North bay front in the 1300-1200 block looking towards the bridge. There are a group of boys and girls preparing to leave in a rowboat. They appear to be mounting a outboard motor or trying to get it to start with the boat pulled ashore. They may also be removing it for storage. The bridge is in the background behind several piers. The bottom of the photograph is slightly smudged, likely from the printing process.
The postcard was sent on June 2, 1942 to Howard R. Rafer in Albuquerque, New Mexico.Subject Place

Dear Howard & Thelma,
Are down at Balboa Island for a few days visit with Carolyn Cox. Still having cool weather. Thelma, why don't you take a vacation and run over to see us too? Will try to write a letter soon- have been pretty busy. Much love to both of you,
