Name/Title

In the Harbor, Balboa 121

Entry/Object ID

BIM2020.005.196

Description

TWo black and white photograph postcards of several boats on the harbor, including one named Balboa at the forefront of the photograph. The photograph was taken in the water. The Balboa Island Ferry landing on the island is visible to the right. Each copy was printed using a different technique. One might be a gelatin print based on the reflection off the darker parts of the print. The other has a shiny finish. Both are from the same image but cropped in slightly different places. Both photographs were sent from Balboa. The first on July 6th of 1928 (though the postcard is dated in writing as having been composed on June 6th, 1928) to Christie Christin in Los Angeles. The second postcard was sent July 30 of an unknown year to John Steskal in Pennsylvania via RFD (Rural Free Delivery) post. Both have red 2 cent Washington postage stamps. Both have standard postcard backs. No publisher information is available and the stamp boxes are covered, preventing dating by paper type.
