Information provided by Jon Remy on 6/23/2022:
212 Collins was built in 1925 by Earl Burlingame Johnson, who owned Johnson Lumber Company in Altadena, CA
He brought down lumber from his yard on weekends, it took a year to complete the downstairs cottage. The rear unit was added in 1932 as as a sleeping quarters with 6 bunk beds. 212 Collins remains completely original as built, except for the electrical system.
In 1969 the house was rented to 10 Newport Beach Lifeguards for $150/month who were told to make themselves at home, so they filled the entire downstairs with 6" of sand from the bay front.
Needless to say, they didn't get their $20 Security Deposit back.
The property was inherited by Kathryn Johnson Remy in 1967, and now is owned by her son Jon.Collection
