BIM2020.005.19Description
A black and white photograph postcard of a large, two full mast and one half mast sailing vessel anchored in front of 526 South Bay Front, Balboa Island. The photograph is just off Agate, with the water tower visible but the ferry just out of the shot. The boat is abnormally large for the harbor at the time, which was not yet dredged.
The postcard was sent on September 16,1929 at 8 am from the Balboa post office, likely the one on Main street near the Balboa Pavilion. It was sent by Anna C. A. to Mrs. William Marley in Los Angeles.
The postcard is printed upside down and was likely printed locally or in home from a Kodak or Ansco postcard camera negative. The ship might be a Jacht or a Retourschip.
The cut off message on the back suggests that the message was written on the postcard pre-printing, again suggesting it was done by a local developer or an amateur developer. Appears to have been printed on silver chloride paper manufactured by DOPS.Subject Place
