Postcard with a photographs of the docks on the Peninulsa side looking towards Balboa Island. The Ferry can be seen crossing. The back reads:
Newport Bay
This sail-dotted lagoon-like bay was once a hide-out for Yankee smugglers. This was known as McFadden Landing who built the pier here for his vessel known as the Newport. James McFadden with his brother Robert embarked in the shipping business and built the Santa Ana and Newport Railroad that ran from Newport Wharf to Santa Ana. The old railfoad right-of-way went through the present town of Costa Mesa. Today the Newport Bay is known for the boats that make this their home port, boats that are known around the world where ever sailers meet...M.P.
