Pocket tobacco tin found on the east wall foundation ledge in the basement of 607 Grove Street in Boise, Idaho. The tin is tall, slim, and curved to fit in a pocket. It has a hinged lid and flat base. The main colors of the body and logos or decoration are white, black, gold, brown, and dark green. Text on the concave side of the tin reads: "Patterson's Tuxedo Tobacco," a graphic of a man in a tuxedo smoking a pipe appears above, "Specially Prepared for Pipe & Cigarette," "RA Patterson Tobo. Co. The American Tobacco Co. Successor (Incorporated)." The convex side of the tin reads: "Patterson's Tuxedo Tobacco For Pipe & Cigarette" with a graphic of a pipe and two cigarettes. "The perfection of 50 years experience in the tobacco business. Does not bite the tongue nor make the mouth sore." appears in black script over "RA Patterson Tobo. Co. The American Tobacco Co. Successor (Incorporated)." Printed vertically in small black letters on the right side of the concave side, "Pat'd Feb. 6th 1906 NO. 812175." In a rectangle next to the patent information is: "Factory No. 127, Dist. of KY. Notice - the manufacturer of this tobacco has complied with all the requirements of law every person is cautioned _ _ _ _ penalties of _ _ _ _ to use this package of tobacco again _ _ _ _ _." The final area of text on this tobacco tin is under the lid: "Guarantee. If the tobacco in this tin is not found entirely satisfactory, return the tin with contents to your dealer and he will refund your money. TO DEALER - See our guarantee on carton." There are remnants of a paper label on the top of the lid (blue paper with black ink) and also between the 'X' and 'E' of "Tuxedo" on the side of the tin with the pipe logo.
The basement of 607 Grove Street was dug out in the 1920s, around the same time that other remodeling projects were occurring in the house.
