A: Keyboard style accordion
B: Keyboard style accordion case
A: A keyboard accordion. Materials used in body include wood, metal and a pearly white celluloid/plastic and a blue celluloid/plastic. The body is a creamy white with sky blue accented keys and a solid blue portion just above the buttons. The grill is a sky blue foil(?) with the same creamy white celluloid/plastic in a cross hatch pattern. To the right of the cross hatch pattern is the manufacturer name and crest: "Scandalli" in white plastic with a maroon and brass colored shield above with the text: "Scandalli Italia." The bellows is edged in a silver metal but is mainly made of a cream cardboard. As a keyboard style accordion, there is a row of piano keys at the top made of black and white celluloid. This style is also known as a "120 bass" for the 120 small bass buttons at the bottom. These are known as a Stradella Bass System, or Standard Bass.
The backing has a black fabric cushion attached by four snaps to the keyboard half of the accordion. Black leather, colorless plasitc, gray velvet, and foam shoulder straps are connected to the both sides (technically the top and bottom when worn). The velvet portions of the shoulder straps are worn in many places to the point that foam can be seen.
Scandalli accordions are world renown, made in Italy. The company began in 1900 and is still creating accordions today.
This accordion is being played by Jimmy Jausoro in photo 2015.037.008 and is also pictured on Jimmy's gravestone.
B: Leather case for keyboard accordion. Trimmed in brass with brass closures that lock and hinges. Black plastic handle attached with brass to the case. Space between handle ends is the brass plate with maker name: "Scandalli." Inside is lined with red velvet with a quilted insert. The insert is a floral print quilted to pieces of foam, this insert looks like it was cut from a matress. The case is in overall good condition with scuffs, scratches, and wear due to years of use.
