Description

Pink, blue, red, green, yellow, orange, black, and white glass marble found in the parlor of 607 Grove Street during archaeological excavation. The strands of colored glass are just below the surface of the marble. The thin top layer is clear. This style of swirled marble is considered a "Joseph Coat Swirl." One "pole" of the marble is covered in indentations in the glass. The other side has a small bump that has been ground down, making a small rough patch. Multiple fine bubbles appear just below the surface of the marble. Reference: Block, Stanley A., ed. Marble Mania. Atglen, PA: Schiffer Publishing, Ltd., 1998.
