Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
The Navy Distinguished Service Order Medal was awarded for meritorious and heroic deeds in combat and non-combat throughout the Vietnam War. The medal was awarded by South Vietnam and was last issued in 1974.Collection
