John Lamson was a MM1c on Battleship Texas from May 1917 to June 1919. Throughout his time on Texas, he sent a letter to his family at least once a week, often more. Longer stretches of absence are explained either by movement across the Atlantic, or with the Grand Fleet.
The World War One Victory Medal (referred to as the Victory Medal before WWII) was awarded to US service members who participated from April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918, with a few exceptions for later service. The medal was established by different military departments in Spring 1919.Collection
