Context

USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946. Charles F. Zinnante was initially in the Navy from 1935 to 1939.  He served on USS Detroit and Hamilton before being assigned to Battleship New York in 1937.  He then served on several destroyers and was discharged as a S1c.  He rejoined the Navy in 1942 and served in the European and Pacific Theaters earning four battle stars.  He was discharged as a CTM in 1945. USS Detroit (CL-8) was an Omaha-class light cruiser commissioned from July 31, 1923, to January 11, 1946. She was sold for scrap on February 27, 1946. Many crew members kept photo albums that each have hundreds of photos chronicling their service aboard. Domain of Neptunus Rex Certificate marks a sailor crossing over the equator for the first time. It is not an official award within the US Navy.
