Description

Man welding below "OK TO WELD" sprayed on the port side of the hull. Photo by Craig Hartley. Photo was copyrighted on May 25, 1989. On the back of the photo is a sticker that reads: "Todd Shipyards--Galveston Battleship Texas A welder works on the port side of the Texas--about four stories above the concrete floor of the dry dock. This is just one of the thousands of areas that workers are welding, grinding, and replacing."

Context

Battleship Texas departed San Jacinto State Park for Todd Shipyard in Galveston where she had hull work in dry dock from December 13, 1988, to August 6, 1989, and then put back in water for additional work through February 23, 1990. She was moved to Green’s Bayou for decking and monopile instillation and returned to San Jacinto Battleground on July 28, 1990. The Battleship Texas Museum was operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department from 1983 to 2020.
