Uniform overcoat owned by Robert taylor during his time on Battleship Texas. Leather portions are especially worn, but wool is in good condition.Context
Robert Taylor served on both Battleship Texas, and her sister ship Battleship New York. He was a M1c and played the trumpet on both ships from late 1940 to July 1943, and elsewhere until his discharge in 1946.
Dress Blues were the standard uniform for the enlisted sailor in the Navy, and included a jumper, trousers, white hat, and blue cap. Patches denoting sailor rate were on their right arm. Sailors also received handkerchiefs, socks, and many other articles.Collection
