Context

Howard F. Flood Jr. enlisted in the Naval Reserves with parent permission on February 14, 1941, and went through basic training from July 5 to August 3. He went to additional schooling through September 3. His first assignment was on Battleship Texas through March 1942. Honorable Discharge Certificates are issued upon separation with the military, and confirm the service history of a veteran. The Honorable Discharge patch, or “Ruptured Duck” was worn above the right breast pocket on WWII servicemen and women uniforms and allowed them to continue wearing their uniforms after discharge.
