Battleship Texas began preparations for Operation “Iceberg,” the invasion of Okinawa, on March 10, 1945. She departed the Ulithi Islands on March 21, and supported the landings from March 27 to May 14, and returned to the Philippines on May 17, 1945.
Battleship Texas steamed, berthed, and operated alongside hundreds of ships from the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and other fleets across the globe throughout her time in commission from 1914 to 1948.
USS Tennessee (BB-43) was the lead ship of her class of battleship, and commissioned from June 3, 1920, to February 14, 1947. She was broken up in 1959.
USS Zellars (DD-777) was an Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer commissioned from October 25, 1944, to March 19, 1971. She was sold to Iran on October 12, 1973.
USS Leutze (DD-481) was a Fletcher-class destroyer commissioned from March 4, 1944, to December 6, 1945. She was sold for scrap on June 17, 1947.Collection
