Scope and Content

Envelope dated August 9, 1975, and stamped "CHRISTENING OF THE USS TEXAS" Envelope has decal with the Cruiser Texas sailing past a blue image of the state of Texas, with large red lettering overlaying the image spelling out "Texas". Envelope marked for the launching of the new cruiser.

Context

USS Texas (CGN-39) was the 3rd ship named USS Texas. She was a Virginia-class nuclear guided-missile cruiser commissioned from September 10, 1977, to July 16, 1993. She entered the nuclear recycling program on October 1, 1999. Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
