"Order of Worship" for the first Sunday of Lent, held on March 14, 1943. Paper includes hymn lyrics, prayers by the chaplains, scripture readings, sermon, and benediction. Worship service headed by Chaplains J.H. Craven, A.A. Read, M.J. DePagter, V.W. Simons, H.R. Taxdal, D.S. Robinson, and Senior Chaplain W.W. Edel. This paper was written and used a few months after W.W. Edel left the crew of Battleship Texas.

Context

Battleship Texas largely escorted Allied ships across the Atlantic from January 1943 to April 22, 1944. She mainly sailed from New York to either the UK, Gibraltar, or Casablanca. William W. Edel was a chaplain in the Navy from 1917 to 1946. Chaplain Edel was a crew member of Battleship Texas from October 6, 1941, to September 1942. Battleship Texas crew came from a variety of backgrounds and faiths.
