Context

Battleship Texas steamed, berthed, and operated with hundreds of ships from the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, and other fleets across the globe throughout her time in commission from 1914 to 1948. Clarence C. Clifton enlisted on August 2, 1926, and joined the crew of Battleship Texas on October 12, 1926, as a S2c. He was promoted to S1c in the summer of 1927 and remained stationed on Texas through 1930. Many crew members kept photo albums that each have hundreds of photos chronicling their service onboard. USS Colorado (BB-45) was the lead ship of her class of battleship, and commissioned from August 30, 1923, to January 7, 1947. She was sold for scrap on July 23, 1959.
