Battleship Texas participated in various fleet maneuvers and exercises in the Atlantic Ocean (1919) and later Pacific Ocean from July 1919 through January 1924. Beginning in February 1923, maneuvers became known as Fleet Problems, which continued to 1939.
USS New York (BB-34) was the sister ship of USS Texas, and the lead ship of the New York-class battleships. She was commissioned from May 15, 1914, to August 29, 1946.
Lawrence Gaddis collected many souvenirs during his travels around North and South America, as well as from events held on the ship or by the crew, and articles mentioning Battleship Texas in the papers.
Newspapers often wrote stories about Battleship Texas and her crew. While sometimes inaccurate or sensational, they showed the perceptions of the Homefront, and were collected by civilian and crew alike.
USS Nevada (BB-36) was the lead ship of her class of battleship, and commissioned from March 11, 1916, to August 29, 1946. She was sunk as a part of Operation “Crossroads” on July 31, 1946.
USS Oklahoma (BB-37) was a Nevada-class battleship commissioned from May 2, 1916, to September 1, 1944. She was sunk by Japanese bombers on December 7, 1941, refloated for scrap and sank again in 1947.
USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) was the lead ship of her class of battleship, and commissioned from June 12, 1916, to August 29, 1946. She was scuttled after Operation “Crossroads” on February 10, 1948.
USS Arizona (BB-39) was a Pennsylvania-class battleship and was commissioned from October 17, 1916, to December 29, 1941. She was sunk by Japanese bombers on December 7, 1941.
USS New Mexico (BB-40) was the lead ship of her class of battleship, and was commissioned from May 20, 1918, to July 19, 1946. She was scrapped in 1948.
USS Mississippi (BB-41) was a New Mexico-class battleship commissioned from December 18, 1917, to September 17, 1956. She was broken up in 1957.
USS Idaho (BB-42) was a New Mexico-class battleship commissioned from March 24, 1919, to July 3, 1946. She was sold for scrap on November 24, 1947.
USS Tennessee (BB-43) was the lead ship of her class of battleship, and commissioned from June 3, 1920, to February 14, 1947. She was broken up in 1959.
USS California (BB-44) was a Tennessee-class battleship commissioned from August 10, 1921, to February 14, 1947. She was broken up in 1959.Collection
