Description

Houston Chronical photo of the silver service in the Wardroom. The silver service is from left to center of the frame and at right is the aft, portside of the Wardroom. On the back of the photo hand written s the photographer name "Buster Dean", "weekend", " 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" ", "The citizens of Texas.", "USS Texas / (battleship)", and "1978", Stamped in ink is "Houston Chronical Library" and "THUR DEC 21 1978". Attached is a newspaper photo caption that states: "The fourth USS Texas isn't exactly / retired; it's more like a new / duty station. For 30 years tourists have / trod her decks, learning what life was / like on a real battlehsip during the / two great global conflicts."

Context

The Battleship Texas Museum was operated by the Battleship Texas Commission from 1948 to 1983. She was located at San Jacinto State Park on the Houston Ship Channel.
