Description

Houston Chronical photo of Chief McKeown sitting in a stateroom. He is wearing a white and black chief petty officer's hat and dungarees. In the background is a corrogated bulkhead and chiffonier common to Texas's officer staterooms. On the back of the image is stamped in ink: "JUN 4 -1948" and "RETURN / TO CHRONICLE MORGUE" At the bottom of the image is typed, "Chief Mch.Mate Jack McKeown, who served on Battleship Texas 13 years; to retire May 1, and will serve as assistant caretaker of shine on Battlegrounds."

Context

The Battleship Texas Museum was operated by the Battleship Texas Commission from 1948 to 1983. She was located at San Jacinto State Park on the Houston Ship Channel.
