Battleship Texas began preparations for Operation “Detachment,” the invasion of Iwo Jima, on January 23, 1945. She departed the Ulithi Islands on February 10, and supported the landings from February 16 to March 7, and returned to the Ulithi Islands on March 10, 1945.
USS Arkansas (BB-33) was a Wyoming-class battleship commissioned from September 17, 1912, to July 29, 1946. She was sunk as a part of Operation “Crossroads” on July 25, 1946.Collection
