Liberty pass No. N, given to L. C. Cordes, a QM3c. According to the writing,
"This entitles bearer to leave ship on liberty, and
if ship is at a navy yard, to pass through gates. To be
shown to O.O.D. when leaving and dropped in check box on return to ship."
Pass is signed by H.S. Pearson, Ensign on September 24, 1931. Large letters spelling out "FLAG" on right side of pass, blacked out with ink to obscure lettering. Back of pass calls for mailing pass to the postmaster in San Pedro, California if found.Context
Battleship Texas was flagship of Battleship Division One from September 15, 1931, to June 27, 1937. She continued to participate in Fleet Problems throughout this period.
Liberty Passes were awarded to the crew of Battleship Texas when the ship made port. During that time, this pass allowed men to disembark from the ship. It wasn’t total freedom, they had strict time allowances.Collection
