The first “When it comes to Texas: They do it Big” is of the new Crusier Texas, and the second “USS Texas Museum” is of the Battleship Texas.Context
USS Texas (CGN-39) was the 3rd ship named USS Texas. She was a Virginia-class nuclear guided-missile cruiser commissioned from September 10, 1977, to July 16, 1993. She entered the nuclear recycling program on October 1, 1999.
Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
The Battleship Texas Museum was operated by the Battleship Texas Commission from 1948 to 1983. She was located at San Jacinto State Park on the Houston Ship Channel.
Magazines often wrote stories about Battleship Texas and her crew. While sometimes inaccurate or sensational, they showed the perceptions of the Homefront, and were collected by civilian and crew alike.Collection
