Description

Officer's napkin ring belonging to H. V. C. Wetmore and dated to June 19, 1915. Napkin ring would have been used by Wetmore during his time as a crewmember from 1915-1917. Ring is silver plated, and plate has been tarnished and rubbed off on the front.

Context

Battleship Texas operated heavily in the Caribbean from January 1915 through March 1917. While the First World War continued, the United States remained neutral. Wardroom officers had napkins rings with their names on them. Design varied but the tradition continued throughout the history of the US Navy.
