Description

Attachable electric light. Gray cylindrical light with a yellow bulb and black switch. Features "USN" on the side along with “BMG” for Bridgeport Metal Group. The light would be pinned to the breast of the kapok life jacket. Has mild tarnish and acute damage throughout.

Context

In 1915, the United States Navy began using a fiber called kapok, a soft, lightweight fiber from a tropical tree in their life jackets. These jackets were used throughout both World Wars.
