Context

Battleship Texas departed the Mediterranean on September 4, 1944, to return to the United States for overhaul from September 14 to November 10. She passed through the Panama Canal into the Atlantic Ocean on November 19, and conducted gunnery practice in Hawaii from December 9, 1944, to January 9, 1945. Magazines often wrote stories about Battleship Texas and her crew. While sometimes inaccurate or sensational, they showed the perceptions of the Homefront, and were collected by civilian and crew alike.
