Context

William Hynes was a veteran of World War I, who later joined the crew of Battleship Texas from December 31, 1922, to July 24, 1925. He joined the crew as a WT1c and left as a MM1c. The Navy Good Conduct Medal is the oldest continually awarded medal in the US Navy. The first of its kind was awarded in 1869. It is awarded to sailors after finishing an enlistment.
