Description

Marine Corps uniform owned by Harold E. Nichols Jr. Both EGAs are present with the top three buttons missing. Both arms have Marine Ship Detachment patch.

Context

Harold E. Nichols Jr. was a draftee, called to service on July 28, 1941. He later joined the Marine Detachment on Battleship Texas from March 19, 1942, to March 17, 1944, participating in Operation “Torch,” and served throughout the rest of World War II. Marine Corps Dress Blues were the standard formal attire, and included a blue jumper that featured gilt buttons and red trim, blue slacks, white gloves, and a white peaked cap. Ribbons and marksmen medals could be worn on the left breast.
