Peter Fiedler was the first captain of the nuclear cruiser USS Texas (CGN-39) from October 1975 to January 1979. He supervised construction, and took official command on September 10, 1977, when the cruiser was commissioned.
The Legion of Merit Medal was awarded for exceptional meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services. The medal was made via an Act of Congress on July 20, 1942, and awarded retroactively beginning on September 8, 1939.Collection
