Jumpers owned by Robert Zwoboda during his time as crewmember aboard USS Texas. Honorable Discharge "ruptured duck" patch on uniform. Patch on right shoulder indicated Zwaboba's rate of Fire Control Technician 1c.

Context

Robert Zwoboda enlisted on February 19, 1942, and joined the crew of Battleship Texas on May 24, 1942. He became a FC3c on April 23, 1943; a FC2c on October 31, 1943, and a FC1c on October 1, 1945. He left the ship in 1946. Dress Blues were the standard uniform for the enlisted sailor in the Navy, and included a jumper, trousers, white hat, and blue cap. Patches denoting sailor rate were on their right arm. Sailors also received handkerchiefs, socks, and many other articles. The Honorable Discharge patch, or “Ruptured Duck” was worn above the right breast pocket on WWII servicemen and women uniforms and allowed them to continue wearing their uniforms after discharge.
