Harold E. Nichols Jr. was a draftee, called to service on July 28, 1941. He later joined the Marine Detachment on Battleship Texas from March 19, 1942, to March 17, 1944, participating in Operation “Torch,” and served throughout the rest of World War II.
The American Defense Service Medal was awarded to US servicemen who worked in the armed forces from September 1939 to December 1941. The medal was made via executive order by FDR on June 28, 1941.
The American Campaign Medal was awarded to US servicemen who participated in that campaign. The medal was made via executive order by FDR on November 6, 1942.
